Content pillar guide
SEO content strategy
Most content strategies are publishing schedules wearing a better name. A real one decides what not to write, which is the harder and more valuable half.

One search intent, one page
The foundational rule. Every page should own exactly one thing somebody might search for. Two pages aimed at the same intent will split their signals and both will underperform, which is the problem called cannibalisation.
Before publishing anything, check whether an existing page already owns that intent. If it does, improve that page instead of adding a competitor to it.
Commercial pages and supporting content
Commercial pages are where somebody can buy or enquire. Supporting content answers questions around them and routes readers toward them.
The relationship should be explicit: each supporting piece links up to its commercial page with descriptive anchor text, early in the article rather than buried at the end.
Volume is not the goal, and increasingly not even helpful
Publishing more has become a worse strategy than it used to be. AI overviews absorb a large share of purely informational clicks, so a general explainer that once earned traffic may now earn a citation and no visit.
What still works is content with a commercial edge: questions asked by people with a budget and a problem. The cost of a service, how to choose a supplier, why something went wrong. Those searches still convert into enquiries.
Decide what not to write
For each candidate topic, ask whether a reader of this piece could plausibly become a client. If the honest answer is no, it is a hobby post. A small number of pieces that could each produce an enquiry beats twenty that cannot.
Improve before you add
An existing page with history, links and some ranking can usually be improved faster than a new page can be established. Most content plans skip this because rewriting is less satisfying than publishing.
Common questions
How often should we publish?
Less often than you have been told, and consistently. Two or three well-aimed pieces a month beats twelve thin ones, and the thin ones actively compete with your own better pages.
Does AI-written content rank?
Sometimes, briefly. Generating pages at volume without adding value is named in Google's spam policies as scaled content abuse, and readers notice regardless. Use it for research and outlining, not for publishing.
