Ecommerce SEO services
On a store, SEO has a revenue figure attached to it. That makes the work easier to judge and much harder to fake, which is the main reason we like it.
An ecommerce site is the clearest case in search engine optimisation, because the outcome is countable. A category page either earns revenue or it does not, and no amount of reporting can disguise which.
It is also the hardest case technically. A catalogue of four thousand products generates tens of thousands of crawlable URLs through filters, sorts, variants and pagination. Left alone, Google spends its crawl budget on near-duplicates and never gets to the pages that sell.
So ecommerce SEO is mostly two disciplines stacked. Controlling what exists and what Google is allowed to see, then making the surviving pages genuinely the best answer for a commercial search. Most stores we look at have never had the first part done at all.
Who this suits
A good fit
- You have a real catalogue, roughly a hundred products or more
- Category pages matter more to your revenue than the homepage
- You can change templates, not just individual pages
- Organic search already produces revenue you can measure
Probably not a fit
- You sell a handful of products, where a simpler engagement fits
- Your margins cannot absorb a months-long investment
- The store converts badly, which SEO will only make more expensive
What the work involves
-
Indexation control
Deciding which of the tens of thousands of generated URLs should exist at all, and enforcing it through canonicals, robots rules and internal linking rather than hoping Google guesses correctly.
-
Category page structure
For most stores, categories are the commercial pages and products are the long tail. Category templates get the attention first because that is where the searches with buying intent land.
-
Product page templates
Fixing a template fixes four thousand pages at once. Unique content at scale is a template problem, not a copywriting problem.
-
Faceted navigation
Filters are the single largest source of crawl waste on ecommerce sites. Which combinations are indexable is a decision, and most stores have never made it deliberately.
-
Site speed on templates
Core Web Vitals on category and product templates, where the traffic actually is, rather than on the homepage a report happened to test.
-
Search-informed merchandising
What people actually search for versus how your catalogue is organised. These differ more often than you would expect, and the gap is revenue.
How it runs
-
Crawl the whole store
Every URL Google can reach, not a sample. The count alone is usually the first surprise.
-
Decide what should exist
The indexation plan. Unglamorous, and the highest-return work on most stores.
-
Fix templates
Category first, then product, because that is the order revenue arrives in.
-
Build on what works
Once the foundations hold, content and authority on the categories that earn.
Common questions
How is ecommerce SEO different from normal SEO?
Scale and duplication. A brochure site has thirty pages you can review by hand. A store generates thousands automatically, most of which should never be indexed, and deciding which is a large part of the job.
Should I optimise category or product pages first?
Categories, in almost every case. They match how people search, they hold more internal authority, and one category template change affects a whole section of the catalogue.
Will SEO work if my store converts poorly?
It will make the problem more expensive. Doubling traffic to a store that converts at half a percent doubles the cost of a weakness you already have. Fixing conversion first is usually the better order.
Do you work with stores outside Perth?
Yes. Ecommerce is the least location-dependent work we do, and most of our store clients are not in Western Australia at all.
