Shopify removes a lot of technical decisions, which is mostly good. The problems it creates are consistent across every store on the platform, which makes them predictable to fix.
Shopify is the easiest ecommerce platform to launch on and a constrained one to optimise. You cannot edit robots handling the way you can on a custom build, URL structure is largely fixed, and several duplication problems are baked into how the platform generates pages.
The upside is that these constraints are identical on every Shopify store, so the fixes are known rather than exploratory. We are not diagnosing from scratch; we are working through a list that applies to the platform and then getting to the part that differentiates your store.
The most common issue we find is collection pages left on Shopify defaults, competing with each other and with product pages for the same search, while the store owner has been told the problem is content volume.

Which collections should exist, which should be indexable, and how they relate. This is the highest-value Shopify decision and the one most often left on defaults.

The duplicate URL problem
Shopify serves products at more than one path by default. Handling this properly, rather than hoping canonicals absorb it, prevents a whole class of ranking dilution.

Titles, headings, structured data and internal links set in the theme so they apply across the catalogue rather than product by product.

Tag and filter handling
Shopify tag URLs multiply quickly and are rarely worth indexing. Deciding deliberately is cheaper than cleaning up later.

App scripts, image handling and theme weight. We will be straight about which speed problems Shopify simply will not let you solve.

Is Shopify bad for SEO?
No, but it is opinionated. You trade control for simplicity. Most Shopify stores underperform because of decisions left on default, not because of platform limits.
Do I need a Shopify SEO app?
Usually not. Most duplicate what a correctly built theme already does, and each one adds script weight. We tend to remove more apps than we add.
Can you fix Shopify duplicate content?
The standard product duplication, yes, through canonical and internal linking discipline. Some platform behaviour cannot be changed at all, and we will tell you which rather than billing to fight it.
