WordPress SEO services
WordPress gives you complete control, which means it also gives you complete freedom to create problems. Most WordPress SEO work is removing things rather than adding them.
The characteristic WordPress problem is accumulation. Themes, plugins, page builders and archive types pile up over years, each adding scripts, URLs and settings that nobody revisits.
The result is a site generating category, tag, author and date archives nobody reads, loading two hundred kilobytes of JavaScript to display a paragraph of text, with an SEO plugin configured once in 2019 and untouched since.
Almost none of this needs new content to fix. It needs decisions about what should exist, and the discipline to delete what should not.
Who this suits
A good fit
- Your site runs on WordPress and has grown over several years
- Page speed is visibly poor and nobody knows quite why
- You have more indexed URLs than actual pages
- You can change the theme or brief a developer
Probably not a fit
- The site needs rebuilding rather than fixing, which we will say if true
- You want us to maintain WordPress itself, which we do not do
- You are committed to a page builder whose output cannot be improved
What the work involves
-
Archive audit
Category, tag, author and date archives are indexable by default and almost never useful. They dilute internal linking and waste crawl budget on most sites we see.
-
Plugin and script review
What each plugin loads, on which pages, and whether anything still depends on it. This is usually the largest available speed improvement.
-
SEO plugin configuration
Yoast or RankMath set correctly rather than installed and forgotten. Defaults are not a configuration.
-
Template-level fixes
Headings, schema and internal links set in the theme so they apply site-wide rather than post by post.
-
Core Web Vitals
Render-blocking assets, image handling and layout shift, addressed at the theme rather than with another caching plugin on top.
How it runs
-
Crawl and compare
Indexed URLs against pages you meant to publish. The difference is usually large.
-
Remove what should not exist
Archives, orphan pages, plugin routes. Deletion first, because it makes everything after it cheaper.
-
Fix the templates
Once the URL set is right, improve the pages that remain.
-
Then build
Content and links, on foundations that will hold them.
Common questions
Which SEO plugin should I use on WordPress?
Either of the two main ones is fine. The plugin is not what decides your rankings, and switching between them almost never changes anything. How the site is built matters far more.
Is WordPress good for SEO?
It is capable and neutral. A well-built WordPress site competes with anything. A site carrying forty plugins and a page builder will struggle, and that is a build decision rather than a platform one.
Should I noindex my tag pages?
On most sites, yes. If a tag archive is genuinely a useful browsing page with a real audience, keep it. If it exists because WordPress made it, it is diluting you.
