The Perth suburb page trap
It is the most frequently recommended local SEO tactic in Australia and one of the most reliable ways to hurt a new site.

The pitch and the problem
The pitch is obvious enough: forty suburbs, forty pages, forty chances to rank. Build a template, swap the suburb name, publish.
That is the doorway pattern as Google defines it. Substantially similar pages generated for every location, funnelling to the same place. It is named explicitly in the spam policies, and scaled location pages are a common way new sites get flattened.
The volume is not there anyway
This is the part that gets overlooked. Across the Perth suburb terms we have looked at, the combined monthly search volume is in the low tens. Not per suburb. In total.
So the trade being proposed is a real quality risk across the whole site in exchange for a handful of searches a month. Even if the pages worked perfectly, the arithmetic does not clear.
What to do instead
Set your service area properly on your Google Business Profile, which is where local visibility is actually decided. Write about the suburbs you genuinely work in as prose on your local service page. Build one strong page rather than forty weak ones.
If a suburb ever earns its own page, it will be because you have a real client there and something specific to say. That is a very different page from a template with the name substituted.
